First of all, let me inform you that this article is for those of you who are just starting with Magento. If you are a Magento expert, you will probably know this. BlogTalk Radio interviewed Roy Rubin, founder of Varien today. The show ecom phenom interviewed the Magento head on their show today. The show hosts discussed starting on the service side of the e-commerce platform and noting what the open-source e-commerce market was lacking. This is what prompted them to creating Magento and we’ve all seen how the story goes from there. He discusses how the platform was designed from scratch after evaluating what was on the market at that time. They also discuss the newly announced Enterprise version and how it differs from the previous version.
It’s a great interview and we encourage everyone to check it out. Listen Here.
Nathan Smith at Creative District has a great write-up about Magento Extensions he could not live without.
As with any product Magento doesn’t cater to everyones needs out of the box and is missing quite a few things users would expect as standard. Thanks to Magento connect and a decent community following there are extensions and addons that can help you accomplish pretty much anything you like with Magento. There are a few I’ve used and really don’t know what I’d have done with out them, apart from recreating them myself!
We suggest, especially if you’re new to Magento, checking out Nathan’s article and looking at the suggestions he makes and why he uses the extensions on the list.

It’s always interesting to see how developers around the web are making tools to merge different platforms. We’ve already mention a few with Magento and various CMS platforms, but today we find a preview for Facebook application for Magento. For e-commerce sites that think a lot of their customer base would also be on Facebook, this tool could really help amplify business. We look forward to seeing this used and keeping tabs on how it helps our Magento users. And while you’re investigating this future tool, make sure you check out the new Simple Helix Facebook page.
Since we’re talking integration, let’s point a good discussion of the integration between Magento and a different CMS platform: WordPress. The article discussions the variations of how (and where) to integrate the two platforms and then simply steps you through some specifics of the integration. It’s a logical partnership of two popular platforms.
Where Magento is becoming the dominant software for eCommerce websites, is WordPress already the most popular blogging software out there, and with good reason. WordPress can be used in a number of different ways but using WordPress as CMS plus blog engine is what is does best.
So if you’re serious about the online presence of your web shop you should want to take a look at combining Magento and WordPress.
Final Note: We found this article by following Magento on Twitter. If you’re interested in keeping up with all Magento news, we suggest you do the same.
